Flashback Fridays - Movement Split Pea Soup
I am happy to share this soup recipe which we’ve renamed “poop soup” because of it’s movement qualities. This feels comforting and so easy to prepare and let it bubble slowly until it’s ready for your meal. It’s great with cornbread dipped or a hearty wedge of bread.
INGREDIENTS:
1 cup green split peas, soaked overnight, drained
1 cup yellow split lentils, soaked overnight, drained
2 cloves minced garlic
1 onion minced
2 stalks celery, minced
2 carrots, minced
Olive oil for cooking
1/2 cup white wine
1/4 cup cilantro minced
salt and pepper to taste
2 Tablespoons Marmite ( it’s a UK yeast extract)
4 vegetable cubes
6 cups water
METHOD:
Place olive oil in the bottom of a large pan
Toss the onion, carrots and celery with salt and pepper
Add 1/2 the cilantro and brown everything
Add one of the vegetable cubes with 1/4 cup water
Stir to dissolve
Add the peas
Add the lentils
Add the minced garlic
Add the 1/2 cup white wine and reduce
Add the marmite and water
Stir to combine
Add the rest of the vegetable cubes and stir in
Add the rest of the cilantro
Taste and adjust seasoning
Add more water if needed
Allow all to bubble and simmer
Serve the same day or cool and serve the next day
