Tap-tap-tappity! Carter is a little woodpecker with a splendid bow tie, a wild red crest, and a gift for seeing pictures inside wood. When an artist named Art moves into the North Carolina woods, Carter discovers someone who understands his imagination.

As a cabin rises among the trees, curiosity becomes trust, shared discoveries become friendship, and Carter finds the courage to reveal his biggest surprise: a carving made with patience, careful noticing, and a great deal of heart.

Filled with playful sound effects, gentle humor, woodland wonder, and affectionate details, Carter the Carving Woodpecker celebrates creativity, perseverance, patience, friendship, and the happiness of being understood. With every tiny tap, Carter carves his way into a friend's heart.
