Balance - A Spiritual Story

For over 30 years I’ve loved helping individuals and small groups find their point of balance in their lives. Sometimes I’ve done such a great job with my community of clients, while at the same time I was walking around quite wonky and out of balance in my own life path. I have learned that both are equally as important. I will always do a better and happier job for others, when I’m in more balance with myself.

I used to have so much trouble describing what I was capable of doing for others. For me, it was as awkward as my thumbs trying to hold a knitting needle and learn to knit. My mum tried to teach me a few times and I would end up all twisted, while she couldn’t control her giggles at my odd contortions to thread big wool into even bigger and longer knitting needles. In the early days of my growing holistic healing practice, there were some very interesting distractions that were noted by the clients at that time.

Before I completely gave up meat, I would often roast a chicken slowly in the oven, and one time my client came for healing, with soft music playing and the smell of roasted bird, she was having an interesting experience. That wouldn’t work at all now and yet at the time, it was comforting, like receiving healing at Thanksgiving. Now the thought of roasted chicken wouldn’t work for me during a healing at all.

One of the other really sweet distractions came in the form of my young golden retriever dog, “Woof” who loved eating socks. When one day the same chicken roasting client had her socks eaten to toeless creations within inches of their original more whole life, forcing her to ride home in sock-less shoes, I knew I had to create a more balanced situation.

Once socks were removed from his temptation, he became a wonderful gate keeper of the healing, laying stretched out immediately up against any door of any of my healing rooms, holding loving space for the work taking place within. I always felt his pure, loving and balanced support.

Animals are quite often masters of balance. They are in constant creation of balancing their own being with the interaction with us humans on this plane of existence. I have enjoyed many extraordinary moments with animals who showed me a new view, a more pure perspective, that helped me find a different balance in life.

That golden four legged beloved friend was one of my best in this life. He was special and pure. His love and gentle nature touched lives in ways I wouldn't have known how to.

We are always working with balance and when we get it right, life becomes enriched and quite beautiful.
