Valued Mission Newsletter

In this newsletter I want to humbly share a story or two of how valuable even the most innocent or simple existence can still illustrate a valued mission.

It’s easy to place importance and value on those who intentionally set out in their daily work and lives to save and help others, those in military action, doctors, nurses, EMT’s, fire and police workers. There’s no question that these noble and highly trained professionals do recognizable, worthwhile work. However, I have had the great honor of meeting and becoming well acquainted with many of our unsung heroes. In our lives there are often opportunities that come our way for us to step up and be one of these quiet grass root heroes ourselves.

One of my sweet walks in life was as a hospice therapist. The nurses and other therapists and clergy around me, supporting families in some of their saddest and most difficult times, held an extraordinary power with clarity regarding what mattered and all the silly stuff that held no depth or meaning. I saw kindness, compassion and care beyond my wildest imagination.

I saw fear and pain being met with softness and deep care that helped individuals and families overcome the reality, moving them into states of consciousness that could only help elevate anyone or any circumstance they would come into contact with. Life is about loss more than gain. Our gracious ability to let go is far more filled with wisdom than the ability to gain and even create.

To stand more fully in the value of our best selves is indeed our task while in these human bodies, and to do so with gratitude and compassion keeps us on mission. This life is fleeting and valuable, and the value comes in many forms, worthwhile daily work, love and the commitment to share within our families, friends and community, and to always value and be grateful for the life we have been given every single day.

I remember seeing such great poverty in the very early 1980’s in India, when I had the great good fortune to backpack around the world in 80 days with a special boyfriend. We were traveling on a pretty tight fixed budget that could have fed more than one family for the whole year. There was much to be grateful for at such a young and adventurous age.

So far I value my mission and have yet to meet any one single person who does not have a profound mission of their own. Value who you are, what you have to give and the unique qualities of what you bring to earth. The truth is that simply showing up on earth and being as much “YOU” as you can allow, is ultimately worth the journey and places you strongly on mission.
