Count On You Newsletter

There are a few ways to be a rock that others can count on, without being a doormat that hasn’t got enough boundaries to cause respect and empowerment.

It’s lovely having people that love us enough that we can count on them too. Having reliable individuals in our lives creates a grassroots value system that stretches out into the community. It begins with how we show up and then follows with what mirrors or is in contrast to the reality we then create.

The song “stand by me” comes to mind when I think of counting on each other, as it depicts the ability to lean in and lean on the shoulder of one another.

Generating one way streets isn’t an ideal reality, and it’s been more common in the past than many of us wish to admit. One way streets consist of giving generously to those we care about who haven’t got or haven’t chosen to meet the capacity of giving back. Two way streets are way better for all concerned, because it’s good for our highest and best human self, to create balance by being equally good at giving as receiving. I don’t know how reliable I’ve been as I’ve moved around a great deal in this dynamic and exciting life. It’s tough for others to be able to rely on a moving target.

I remember the guides letting me know in a loving way that UPS - the Universal Parcel Service - couldn’t deliver my manifested desires because I kept changing my address with very little or no notification, and once I placed stronger roots, they could deliver my wishes and desires more easily. I smiled, understood and kept moving anyway. I chose to be mobile, curious, willing to experience a variety of different experiences, letting go of building a strong root system for much of this life.

When we make conscious choices, there are always some prices to pay through the decisions we stand on, and it’s important to take responsibility for them. It may mean we can’t be counted on to be present for special events if we’ve chosen to travel and live far away. It also means we can’t expect to be included in local meaningful experiences once people become accustomed to us being elsewhere. It’s valuable to be honest with ourselves, to know who we are and where and if we can be counted on and in the same way who where and when we can count on others as well.
