Responsibility - A Spiritual Story
In the many years of providing wonderful spiritual sessions for individuals and groups, there have been many stories that have truly touched my heart and changed me. Some of those stories have educated me on the lives of others who have lived very differently to me.
One of the best people I had the pleasure to meet was someone who grew up in very challenging circumstances, in a cult environment, as a child, who didn’t have the choice in how to start his journey.
He had realized at an early age that the life he was having to grow up in, wasn’t a good fit for him at all. He began reading a great deal about all the various religions, all the cultures and ways of life, and was informed before he was a teenager that he wasn’t in a story he wished to continue to experience.
He then wrote to a family member and asked to be taken in, to be given a new start and they agreed. He snuck out at night as a young teen, leaving a note, and sitting on a bus for a long time to reach another state. He spent the next few years unraveling much of what he’d experienced, and found some talents he hadn’t known he had. He became a very successful businessman, with a loving family that helped him grow past the cult. He became a doctor and when he and I met, we had a last piece to unhook for him.
The piece we helped him release was the guilt of leaving his parents behind. He then married and had children of his own. His past definitely didn’t define him. He claimed responsibility for the life he wanted without blame, guilt and with his whole heart. He knew what he didn’t want and went after being responsible for creating the life that he really wanted to co-create instead. I was truly honored to be a small part of his hero's journey. It was his life not his parents. It was his choice not theirs. He chose his freedom and was entirely responsible for going for it.
