Relationships - A Spiritual Story
This is a most interesting word to explore during a whole lifetime, and certainly being connected, in a relationship is an excellent reason to even exist here on planet earth.
Ultimately we are, hopefully, in a relationship with ourselves 24/7. Some humans aren’t very good at even living this quite basic reality.
To live and love is to really live.
Having one or more “real” relationships with ourselves and at least one other, is well worth our time and consciousness.
I am fortunate to have shared so much with so many of you. Yet, in my personal life I have had only a few truly deep relationships with intimacy. One of them was the relationship I continue to hold up into my heart, and that was with my beloved mum. She loved me completely and was always my “go to” person. I asked her advice, sought her council and shared all and any stories of my daily life with her. I spoke to her just about every day, even when she was in the UK and I was living in Maui, Hawaii. When I went back to the UK to stay with her, I would live with her for weeks, and when possible, months. I had the best relationship with her I could have ever imagined, and she was worth every precious moment we spent together.
She told me stories of growing up in war torn England. She shared some of the challenges of the systems she became a woman in. She told me of her marriage, of life as a mother of four children, who were all very different to raise. She expressed how deeply underestimated she always was, especially by her own children. She sat quietly in their presence, and her silence confirmed to those loud adults, who spoke from the head of their egos, rather than taking the time to listen, with the wisdom of the heart. She illustrated this beautifully and thank goodness I had enough wisdom to learn from her.
As she was aging rapidly in her late 80’s, my glorious Jeff showed up. He took the baton of love and care for me from her, and ran with it into our amazing sunset of both of our lives. I adore the relationship I have with him, which continues to unfold every single day. He reminds me of the reason life is so special and magical. He reminds me of my inner strength and beauty. He is a reason and a season and a lifetime.
I wish such a powerful relationship to exist for each and every one of you.
I have been able to deepen the relationship with myself, partly because of being deeply loved by a mother I loved and respected, and by a man who stands beside me, willing to stay open hearted and always able to listen with the wisdom of the heart, without the head bent urge to prove something from the ego.
I am blessed to be in such good relationship with me and with the man who walks beside me every day. It makes life so valuable and enriching.
