Doorways - A Spiritual Story

It’s so funny how many times I’ve been asked to provide readings for people and during the reading I’ve seen them moving onward, stepping through doorways, away from their current reality. This is all well and good except for those times when the individuals were working for me or doing a job for someone else who had referred me in the first place. That’s an oops!

I do however, love seeing a life moving through bigger and better doorways of opportunity.

It honestly thrills me.

One story that stuck with me for a long time and delighted my mum when I shared aspects of it with her, was a phone call.

I was in New England and a call came in from an old acquaintance I had met while in Southern California. He had come to my home to wire up speakers so that I could enjoy my music ( a great love of mine). He was a delightful and caring man, who did a great job and was diligent, reasonably priced, with great integrity. I liked his field of energy immediately.

I felt a great sadness emanating from him and wished I could reach it and help him transcend it.

When he was done, he looked at me curiously, asking me what I did for work. I told him I was a healing therapist and instructor. He jokingly asked me what I felt with him. This was one of those times when I was really happy he asked, as I’d been picking up on his energy and wanted to share.

I told him what I saw and felt and his eyes filled with tears, when I asked him who he had lost.

His young adult daughter had passed suddenly several years ago and he was devastated. He felt unfinished and quite lost.

I gave him some solutions to help him be more connected to his higher consciousness, so that he could create space to reach out to her on the higher plane she resided on.

He thanked me and took my card as he left me with music all plugged in and a warm feeling in my belly for meeting a sweet spirit who needed guidance.

He reached out a few times over years, at different addresses, while I moved around the state of California. It was always a pleasure to be of service and I was told on each occasion that this was a gift for his healing, rather than a professional session.

I was in New England when I picked up a message from him on my voice mail well after midnight.

 It was him.

He sounded terrible.

His voice was breaking and I was compelled to return the call.

He answered, drunk, sounding very garbled, saying he had a gun in his mouth. He felt he couldn’t handle this life any longer.

I believed him completely.

I know there are wonderful organizations that are better equipped to help his situation than me, yet here he was on the phone, desperate and in need of a friend. I had to help in any way I could. He hadn’t pulled a trigger, instead, he had called me.

It led me to remind him that he must want to continue because he called a lifeline, instead of letting go. That meant something.

He still had life ahead and things to do, places to go, people to yet meet, more to experience.

What did that look like?

He spoke to it and we ended the call asking him to go join an organization to help him to remove the drinking which I felt contributed to not coping, even though it seemed like a coping mechanism to him.

I continue to hear from him every so often and he is still here, doing the best he can, as we all are. I’m glad he continues to step into the doorways of life every day.
