Attachments - A Spiritual Story

Attachment is such an interesting subject, mostly because almost all of us have some if not many attachments while we are here in a physical body.

Some of our attachments are so good and helpful, like being attached to people who love and care for us, activities that bring results and stronger health, work that grants us freedom and joy.

While other attachments can so easily make us miserable, like family who are unkind, or selfish or uncaring, activities that hurt us, work that enslaves our daily life.

I have an interesting story that includes both sides of good attachment and challenging attachment……….

Many years ago, I was living in a horsing, vineyard community north of Santa Barbara, in Southern to Central California. It was truly pretty and I had recently married, settled my children into a wonderful school across the street from our spacious ranch style home, and set up a partnership with a woman in a local healing center we created together. We had built quite a lovely community, with weekly meetings at a local speaking group we formed. They had become dear friends that we really enjoyed spending time with and many of them were clients for me.

However, several aspects of that life didn’t work the way we had hoped and my new husband and I chose to move the children, home and life closer to my husband’s work, as he was making quite a long, arduous commute every day, and the impact was telling on his body.

Friends who owned a vineyard made a “going away” event, inviting the whole speech-making group we so loved. People filed into the dining room, where food and music were set up.

One of the late-comers was the couple who presided over the meetings at their workplace, and the man walked in with a very obviously painful cricked neck.

My hands were on fire.

I asked him, almost begged him, to allow me to work on his stiff neck. He was very hesitant and desperately looked for a way out. He had three herniated discs, locking up his neck. He hadn’t moved it for 3 months and was due to have surgery within 3 weeks. I knew the work scared him, and I personally scared him too with my abilities to see.

In the meantime the hostess, one of my clients, invited the group to take a tour of their extensive vineyards.

He finally nodded that he would stay behind with me working on that stiff neck.

Everyone else filtered out to the vineyard, while my mum, he and I stayed behind. I sat him in a chair, placed on the wood floor, in the middle of the dining room.

I closed my eyes, called in all the Angels and help. I moved my burning hot hands around the edges of his neck, until I stopped at a potent point. I dug in a little as he almost jumped up out of his seat with an instant pain. I then held that spot and tears silently fell down my face, while I instructed him to release the attachment to the job he had been doing that had caused all the stress build up in his neck.

As he visibly let go, with a couple of tears of his own, the neck released.

The energy was so vibrant, that the floor shook, the walls rattled.

Everyone had returned and my mum was corralling them like cattle on the outside of the wooden dining room.

He let go.

He didn’t need surgery and his neck was normal again.

Mum and I left, with my husband and son, who had gone on the vineyard tour.

It was a heck of a going away party.

So many attachments were released that day.
