Giving - A Spiritual Story
It’s wonderful actually that giving thanks is the reverse way of saying the same truth of Thanksgiving. When we give thanks we are honoring whatever is in front of us.
I have been so thankful for the love that’s showed up in my life story. Of several great loves one will always be for my mum, on all planes of her existence. One of her favorite stories of healing and spiritual growth connects to our lovely American tradition of Thanksgiving.
I love the story that I’m about to share with you……………
I was in my healing center based North of Santa Barbara, with a partner who wasn’t good at sharing business. It was a real challenge for me, and yet especially in the absence of my business partner, when she took time to be with her family, some of the most amazing stories of great healing occurred during those times.
I reflect back to a blue sky, warm and slightly breezy Saturday afternoon, with my business partner away from the center for the weekend. My mum sat on the reception desk and we only had a couple of clients on our books, so it was a very relaxing, floaty weekend of work.
The Angel shop was open and busy, our doors and windows were swung open, to invite the breeze and curious people to blow through.
In my frustration to create healing clients, I had worked out a great plan with the visitors’ center to keep an advert going in return for regular chair massage in their offices for the staff. It trickled visitors to our center and I claimed a few of them when my partner wasn’t there.
On this particular Saturday the clock was ticking along toward early afternoon and a woman stepped into the center with her husband. She asked my mum if it was possible for her to receive a massage on this day, as her shoulders were locked up tight and she hadn’t received any body work for a very long time. My mum created a session there and then.
The woman kissed her husband goodbye. He was going to sit in a piano bar and snack while watching the game. She was going to experience 90 minutes of pampering. They were both more than excited. She completed our “getting to know you form” and she then followed me to my therapy room. We set an intention for her shoulders to release their burdens, whatever they may involve, as I left her to undress. I stood at the doorway, in prayer for her session, and as I did so, a young spirit bounced beside me. She was wonderful, full of life, wearing a cheerleading outfit, completed by pom poms and everything, with long curly hair, that seemed to be brunette.
She was holding a sign and waving it for my attention, although I couldn’t read what it said.
I knocked on the door, listening for the muffled response that my client was ready for me to step into the room and begin our session. As I walked in, the bright spirit came with me.
I began massaging her back, focusing on unwinding the tension she was physically holding. The spirit girl was urging me to tell the woman she was in the room with me. I wasn’t sure how open my client was to my other gifts, and finally, I caved and asked the woman that if I had spiritual insights, would she be open to receiving them? She quickly agreed and let me know that, yes, she was happy to hear any insights that could benefit her.
I continued to massage her, while describing the sweet young spirit that was bouncing around beside me. The woman began sobbing, with her whole body shaking with emotion. As she did, while I continued sharing, her back muscles began to open up and soften.
When I turned my client over, the girl took me to a Thanksgiving scene, which I shared aloud, while continuing the massage. Smells of oven baked turkey filled my spiritual senses, and I found myself stood in a kitchen with a whole family. A boy with long legs was sitting on a kitchen countertop, dangling his legs, pointing with laughter at green beans, expressing that he was like the string bean. I was then taken to a girl, the spirit girl, who was leaning over the shoulder of the woman who was laying on my massage table.
The woman was chopping carrots and the girl had her gorgeous hair tossed back, laughing, while showing off her lovely orange curly thick mane of hair, as having similarities to the carrot. The girl was her daughter and the mum was crying gently on my table. This was her daughter’s last Thanksgiving. She showed me that she had left our World soon after, in a sudden and tragic car crash. That gorgeous young life completed way too early. Through my own tears I could finally read the sign she’d been holding, which read, “Please don’t worry mom, I am fine. I love and miss you from forever.”
We completed the massage and I left the room, while she gathered herself and dressed.
I stood in the bathroom at the back of the center, composing myself, stunned by the work that poured through me at surprising junctions.
When I came to the reception area, mum had given the woman water, and her husband had returned to collect her. She told him something extraordinary had happened and she couldn’t wait to share with him. She hugged me for a long time, and then I watched her and her daughter leave hand in hand.
The girl looked back and blew me a kiss, with a huge smile of gratitude.
I knew I would remember this day forever.
