Highest Good - A Spiritual Story

I have loved coming from my highest and greatest good, where possible and when I am most consciously aware of it. It’s even better when in the company of another, sometimes wiser human, who is constantly coming from their highest and greatest good.

One of my great heroes was my mum. She had a quiet way of staying in her bubble of wisdom, and not playing into the poor behavior of others very often. Even in her late 80’s she more often than not came from her highest good.

I remember that both of my brothers fell into inconsideration, to the point of unkindness around her, often treating her like she had lost brain cells as she had aged. This is something I’ve commonly noticed in the adult children of some of the elders I’ve had the great good fortune of working with over the years.

I fondly remember that just before major holidays, my mother baked gorgeous cakes for everyone she knew. She would drop them off and she felt her value in doing this, and I could see her joy and her higher self being expressed here on earth.

On one of the holidays, she had baked a cake for my brother’s gathering that we were invited to. My brother had a few drinks of celebration, and began making fun of her and her baking. She sat quietly, disallowing his comments to enter her being, simply relaxing in the laughter at her expense. I, on the other hand, was not sitting in my highest good and could feel the steam coming out of my ears. Later when we were in the car, driving to her sweet home, I asked her how she remained calm, and did his comments hurt her? Her response was so gracious, it brought tears to my eyes even then. She told me that she loved him, that she saw his flaws and knew he was showing off and playing the game of ego, in front of his friends, and it didn’t matter, because her baking had been well received by enough people, that she knew her worth, and didn’t need his compliments or grace.

I so deeply loved her response and appreciated her so much at that moment. She was in her highest good and could still love and see the highest good in others, even when they were perceived by me at their worst.
