Faith "Full" or "Less" - A Spiritual Story

faith1.jpg

A faithful dog is a huge gift to anyone who has had the pleasure of sharing years with one. A faithful relationship holds the potential for a beautiful life experience. Faith, is not necessarily a religion or a belief system, it’s more of a state of mind, and is something that when it’s part of our reality, can offer enrichment to the style of our everyday life. I had many wonderful occasions to visit with faith over the years in practice as a healing therapist, a hospice counselor and therapist and with all and any hats I’ve worn in business and in my personal life.

I have a stand out story that reached my heart that I am sharing with you here. I’d love to hear any wonderful stories that inspired more faith in you, others, life, a Higher Power or life in general. Those are the best stories, and life is always telling a story. We may as well enjoy the good ones. Here is this one - all my stories are true ( I love this)………………

My mum was with me, living with me and working with me, for many years, in Southern California. We grew very close and she loved and adored the healing work and the tales of enlightenment that came with them.

This was one of her favorites.

I taught a couple of gentle Chi Quoing movement classes at the YMCA that were filled to the brim, as they were so popular. It may have been because I wore no makeup, had loose baggy clothes, was a little chunky and not hot and fit, so I was accessible, not at all intimidating and people laughed while they moved ( I found out during those classes that I was really quite funny.)

I spoke to the activities director who was a lovely woman, asking her if I could provide healing therapy there two days a week, as well as the classes. People had asked me regularly if I offered sessions and I didn’t.

We created a special inexpensive cost and she had a room directly off the pool area, that I could use. I jumped at the opportunity to touch more lives and make a difference in my local community. We developed a flyer and the first day came.

I walked into the room I was going to work from and laughed out loud before the first client. The table I was going to use was attached to the wall, so I would have to flip people like a pancake in order to reach both sides of them. If that wasn’t challenging enough, the ceiling dripped big droplets of condensation from the pool and the room had a fan but was still very sweaty.

The first day I had four people who loved their time and rebooked a next session. Word spread and parents would drop kids off for swim lessons, and come to me for the glorious work. It still made me smile, while I worked the droplets into the massage on them, and yet there was something so pure and humbling about working there, I absolutely loved it.

My mum would check the clients in at a small table with a chair near the entrance to the pool, and field enquiries and bookings. She was really fabulous at it and people loved her. She welcomed a woman called Terri, who was very shut off energetically. I came out to meet her and brought Terri into my room and closed the door.

She immediately lifted her shirt, telling me she was in remission from breast cancer. The lifted shirt revealed a double mastectomy. I had never seen one up close and hid my surprise. She let me know she didn’t want all my woo-woo spiritual stuff, was an atheist and wanted me instead to be physical, to help soften the breast tissue and work all around her chest to help her relax. I agreed and stood outside the room asking for help and prayer to help her highest good, without offending her.

I stepped into the room and she was laying face down. I began working in circles and saying silent prayer to help soften her greatly on every level.  While I worked there were tears falling down my cheeks, which I added to the droplets of condensation on her back. The feeling in that room was nothing short of sacred and so gentle. I felt all the Angels. I knew we had loads of help. I remained silent and hid my emotions, based on her open request disclosure of no faith please. It was time to turn her over and work all around her breast tissue.

She lay face up while I worked silently. I noticed she had a tear-stained face. I knew we had shared something really special without words. We knew.

I kept working, sending messages of love and faith all the way through her. We were complete and I thanked her as I left the room.

I waited outside with my customary cup of filtered water, provided by the YMCA.

She hugged me with such warmth and walked away from me in a bit of a daze. All the clients stopped by the table after a session to connect with my mum and either rebook or just check in. I had watched her do that too. Then I sat for a few minutes, while preparing for my next person, still feeling warm, salty moisture behind my eyes.

My day ended and my mum sat in my car, placing her hand on my arm, asking me not to start the engine just yet. I stopped and looked in her eyes, which were watery as she told me about Terri.

Terri had sat down on the chair next to her after our session. She told mum, while gently weeping that while I was working on her, she saw Angels and was visited by what she could only describe as God. She was asked to forgive them for the physical and harsh emotional challenges she had faced. She was told they absolutely loved her and the disease was her opportunity to grow her faith, not to lose it. They missed her and wanted her back.

Death, divorce and disease had moved her away from the deeper and sweeter places she had always known. She had lost her way and was angry and sad. She said her massage was a huge spiritual awakening. She then held my mum’s hand in hers and let her know that she was going to light candles and return to her prayers of Grace and faith. She missed it too.

Mum let me know they had both wept and hugged and my mum was so thankful that this work was such a part of her own path. We sat in the car for quite some time, enjoying our faith in being on purpose and the beauty of it.
