No Judgement - A Spiritual Story

If we live long enough, and have the great privilege to travel wide enough, we will meet many pre-judgments, and those who have a closed view already, without an open mind or heart to learn from others. It’s so great to show up at the table of life, being able to say,

“I don’t know, and I’m willing to learn. Please share what you know with me”.

The cup of life deserves to tip out too much knowledge and experiences, to save room for more. By doing this we will be less likely to hold space for judgment.

I remember in my younger years, being an insurance salesperson for a company and I had some great clients, lots of small businesses I worked with. One of those companies was very successful with a German couple behind the business. The woman was the one I had worked with for over a year, and she was matter of fact and quite pleasant. One day after I had saved her a great deal of money, she invited me to share a lunch with her. I was taken aback, as this wasn’t her usual style and I was happy to agree.

We went to a really nice restaurant, with both of us in our best smart business suit. She was very complimentary, and we ate and she talked a lot. I listened a great deal, while she made it clear she had strong feelings against other races and creeds, including a particular dislike of Jewish people. I sat in a space, observing and just a little uncomfortable, because my own ancestral line was Judaic. I chose to say nothing, even though that lunch was always going to be the only one of its kind.

Several months passed and I had the opportunity to leave that organization and pass my business to another person, sending lovely letters to every business, thanking them for trusting me. At that time the German business woman contacted me directly, stating how sad she was to lose me. I let her know that I was moving forward for good reasons and I appreciated her warm goodbye.

She invited me to come to her home for a special goodbye meal, and it was the Jewish New Year, with an invitation to share time with dear friends and my mother. I gratefully declined, letting her know I had a spiritual date with my Jewish family and friends. There was silence and she apologized for her judgment. I let her know she deserved to be considerate in not really knowing the company she was in, and I hope she had changed her limited mindset as a result of us meeting. No judgment, more love.
