Choose Well - A Spiritual Story

Over a span of living a life, large or small, we each have the options of choosing well, where possible. I have not always chosen so well for myself. At 16 I was completely besotted with my first husband and wandered off in the sunset with a man who could really make me laugh. When the laughter changed to laughing at me instead of with me, I realized I hadn’t chosen well. By then we had 2 sweet children, and the choice to leave, in a path of unkind and unfaithful behavior from him, was more than challenging. At that point I of course, questioned my choices, and in fairness, I was then 30 years old and no longer a teen. There are two adult children in this World because of that troubled union, and they are moving forward, hopefully making great choices for themselves. They each married in their 30’s and I hope they chose well. They certainly didn’t choose to be in relationship with me, and I accept. They chose their father, who could provide more material comforts than I could during very profound years. I have fully accepted that some people choose their home bound family to be their World, while others choose their World to be their family. I choose all of you, and thank you for choosing me.

One of the greatest aspects of having had pointy, uncomfortable stones in your shoes, is that as you tip them out, you can help others to do the same, along their own pathways. I love helping individuals, and sometimes groups of people to navigate a better, softer terrain in their lives, knowing personally how it feels to have lived through my own sometimes challenging groundwork.

The work chose me, and my willingness to step into it, made it an astonishing reality.

I can honestly say that my second marriage was filled with kindness and care, and when he left this World, I had more choices than I had ever encountered. I was 52 and had never been single, or even alone, since 16. The World had unknowns for me to choose from. I made some truly profound choices, with very little funds to support life. I lived in an Ashram, and in a Buddhist sanctuary, I slept in rooms rented from very good people. I dated some decent men and a couple of total lunatics. I didn’t always choose well.

Then I met Jeff. He didn’t fit all my dents at all. He wasn’t wealthy, had a great mind, a handsome face, and the biggest heart I’d ever met. He had this magician inside that I wanted to see all the time. He challenged my prior concepts of what I assumed real love could be, and he surpassed the reality I had held, that I thought I could experience.

I chose more than well. Jeff is my soul partner, my twin flame. I am a little obsessed with sharing as much time with him as I possibly can, all the time. I don’t feel independent anymore, because I simply want to be around him. He makes me laugh and it’s filled with play and joy. We never laugh at anyone else’s expense. We laugh at life, at silly thoughts and at the pleasure we derive from our normal every day existence.

I definitely chose well. Life is very, very good.
