Fun - A Spiritual Story

Life is supposed to be fun and when you can have fun instead of what we call work, the lines get blurry in a really good way. I often feel I am living this reality because I love the work that pours through me and I am blessed to touch lives that in turn truly keep opening my heart and stretching me beyond anything I could have imagined.

At one point in time I had some very interesting practitioners in my healing center. The cast of characters made life more fun and sometimes challenges came from so many different people of course.

I will admit that I had my favorites. One of them was my white haired, bouncy transformational breath work facilitator. She would inspire us to jump up and down while imagining breathing through a straw, with quite loud music playing and her shouting instructions over the music. I loved every moment, asking her to show up whether other people came or not, guaranteeing her a set fee if it was just me and more as others came to the classes. We held those classes every week for nearly 3 years. I know she was a huge part of my awakening process.

I had a pregnancy coach that came to the center on a Sunday, when we were officially closed, with a bunch of waddling preggie ladies and their confused looking husbands. When they first came to the center, my mum and I sat in the parking lot to be close, making sure there weren’t any issues because the sweet, petite practitioner had a set of keys and knew the alarm codes.

We watched as she held open the door, no bells were ringing, so we were fine, and the parade of women with bellies wandered in clutching their pillows. It was really sweet and mum and I had a huge smile on our faces until they had all entered the center.

I had a chiropractor who preferred animals to people and worked on pets outside the center all the time. There were sweet puppies, cats, rabbits, and more. She was a cool lady who had big dreams to claim a property and work with people from there. We lost touch but I hope her dreams came true.

Another of my favorite healers was a singing bowl hypnotherapist, who used a color therapy as well. She shared a room with another healer and they hung shelves, displaying stunning bottles of all colors, and placed lights of all colors inside the singing bowls. I kept wandering into that room because it was so pretty. I loved that hypnotherapist so much; her sessions and classes were always beautifully led. She was gracious and honest. I am still in contact with her today.

I had a couple of therapists I didn’t enjoy as much and when timing was right, I let them go. One was an acupuncturist who never showed up early or even on time for his clients, so my mum and I had to entertain them. He would walk in unapologetically with bicycle clips on his pants, then remove any excess furniture in the room, and call the patient in, who had been waiting for him. When his few minutes became half hours I had warned him enough, and we parted company on sweet terms.

I had an iridologist who was quite wonderful at determining someone’s health by staring into their eyes. She was definitely odd, as she looked like a cross between female Albert Einstein and a Mr. Magoo with her big framed glasses. She was quirky, eccentric and more than fun to be around.

One of my most challenging therapists was a very talented yoga instructor. He drank red wine to get his alignment up, and although that may sound like a really good idea, he often missed his own yoga classes because he was sleeping. Thank goodness I knew Chi Quoing, because there were quite a few times I led the class he was supposed to. When he did show up, his classes were quite beautiful. He posed us and helped our movement, he meditated us with extraordinary music, and used tuning forks near our ears to heighten our experience.

He had this massage water bed table which vibrated with music while you laid on it. It was a journey on that table. The table flowed, the music went all the way through your body and he massaged you while all this was happening. You floated out of the body and back into the body with drums, pipes and song. I loved every minute and became a little addicted to that table.

To this day, that table was some of the most profound healing I have ever had.

Interviewing new potential healers and therapists was really fun because I chose to experience their particular brand of therapy. It was like auditioning people for American Idol. Some were very talented and took you places you could barely imagine, while others worked too hard to impress and fell down on the job.

One told me she was Hawaiian trained and when I lay on the table she left the room, returning with a large tub of coconut oil, tropical music and she wore a grass skirt, dancing around me while she worked. The massage honestly was terrible, the music was sweet and the coconut oil was yummy, but she was odd and focused more on her dance technique than what she could do for me. It was a bit of a disaster. I thanked her and told her we normally wrote to people to let them know if it felt like a good fit.

I contacted her the next day to let her know it wasn’t a fit for our particular center.

She was memorable and the session was both the worst and the most fascinating I had experienced. Life continues to be fun, although I don’t have a healing center. It’s just me, classes and sessions online and in person. Simple, fun and sweet.
