Faith - A Spiritual Story

Faith is a word that holds a great deal of energy for me. I hold faith with a spiritual leaning rather than a religious one. I have had so much proof that the power of faith is worthwhile, as I share the story following to illustrate it….

I was working as a massage instructor in a massage school that were unfortunately more interested in placing students in chairs as a financial consideration, than any investment in the success of the individuals. I truly love teaching and being an instructor at that massage school was such a wonderful gift. The student body was warm and friendly, while the governing body of the school was harsh and greedy, with questionable integrity.

A new class had joined the school and I was getting to know the sweet qualities of each student.  One of them was a young woman who was really smart, came in, got her work done in a solid manner and then left to go and take care of family.  She had twin infant boys and life was an obvious juggling act.

One day only 2 weeks into classes with her, she showed up completely distraught, shaking and in tears. We held class and I asked her to stay behind. It was lunch time and she’d had nothing to eat or drink. I’ve always had extra reserves in my body, so I gave her my delicious homemade veggie Caesar salad, and got her a glass of water, while she munched and talked through tears of what had taken place that morning before class.

Her husband was unfortunately heavily into narcotics, being more high than grounded on a daily basis. She took on much of the responsibility for the family they had created together, with school and a part-time job. He was unemployed and looked after their twins while she created any financial stability. They had a disagreement the night before and he was barely speaking with her.

When she awoke he and one of the twins was gone. There was no note, his phone didn’t respond and their joint vehicle was parked outside. He had left without a bag of diapers, no food or milk for the baby and the other twin was more than distraught to be separated from his best friend and brother. It was a mess. She was completely unhinged. She had left her son at home with a trusted friend, but she came to school shaking like a leaf, not knowing what to do. I knew I was supposed to help her.

I left her for a moment with the salad and water, while I asked the supervisor if we could give her work and keep her in school, while authorities, family and anyone else could locate her husband and twin son. I felt she wasn’t in any condition to drive home and should remain calm, stay at the school, and leave when some sort of strategy was in place.

He ordered me to make her drive home. The school wasn’t responsible or liable for her troubles.

I couldn’t do it. She was shaking and tearful.

We sat in the library and removed our shoes. I invited her to hold my hands and close her eyes. I called in Christ with the brightest most loving light I could imagine, and asked her to visualize it too. I saw in my mind’s eye her husband calling her and apologizing. I saw her little boys both being fine and that her husband would be driven home by a family member, that would have a huge impact on him wanting to do better, take more responsibility and take care of the family he had co-created. I continued to remind her to bring in that bright light of Christ for healing.

I removed my hands from hers, breathed out and sent thanks to Christ and all the light beings in the room.

Within moments of releasing hands, she opened her eyes and the phone rang.

A tearful husband apologized and promised to do better. He had taken a bus to his mum’s home. The baby was sat in a dirty diaper, crying and upset, hungry and uncomfortable. It was a real wake up call for him and his behavior. His mum rushed out and got diapers, food and milk for the baby. Within an hour the baby was asleep and comfortable.

She took the phone from her son and let his wife know that she herself was going to hold him accountable for this family and that his wife had her permission to come to her at any point and call in her help and support. She let her know that she really loved her and that his manner of showing up wasn’t acceptable any longer. She and the twin babies deserved better.

My student was listening and nodding while tears spilled down her cheeks.

She hung up and was going home, with food in her belly and a peaceful heart.

I was so happy her and I had shared a profound moment of deep faith, calling in the “big guns of Christ” to help her claim what was rightfully hers and it was instant manifestation.

This was also a reminder to have the faith and strength to stand in what is best and not listen to societal pressure that wanted to send her home in a challenged condition.

Faith matters and so does kindness.
