Attitude of Gratitude - A Spiritual Story

I cannot say I’ve kept up an attitude of gratitude all the time in this life. I’ve had my ups and downs on this roller coaster ride, and sometimes the downs have not been a thing I’ve shown up grateful for, to be honest.

However, I know with some certainty that when I’ve been at my most grateful, life has definitely worked out better, way better for me in all areas and on all levels.

To keep up an attitude of gratitude is worth my time and energy, and I feel its worth it to each of us. I have many stories along the timeline of 30 years as a spiritual healer, and they’re all worth telling. There’s a few stand outs that have stayed with me, mostly because they deeply touched my heart. This is one of them.

When my children were very young, newborn and a 21 month old, I was exhausted and met a new possible friend in a park, who lived close to me. I hired a babysitter to watch my child, while the baby slept.

All I wanted to do for the 2 hours of babysitting time, was go somewhere and sleep.

My options were tiny.

I found myself knocking on the door of the new possible friend I’d only met once and asked if she had a bed I could lay on and take a nap.

She looked puzzled and said yes.

I asked her to wake me in an hour and a half.

I must have been entirely conked out, as I laid down and next thing was a knock on the door.

I wandered back home to babies and lots of demands, with a sleepy and gentle demeanor.

I was so grateful.

Her and I remained friends for many years. We are still a little in contact, even though distance and life have kept us from the connection we once had. I still remember her kindness and something so simple that I deeply needed that day, that she could provide for me.

Many years later, I rang her sister out of the blue, enquiring about their aging and wonderful mum. The moment I rang they were trying hard to sort out a hospice plan for her as she was in transition from this plane of existence to the next.

I happened to work for a lovely hospice group and gave her the number.

Hospice allowed me to go into the homes and help the families and the patients with their ongoing journeys of different reality. I massaged and spiritually counseled.

It was profound work, with no hospice survivors.

I was finally able to help my friends and pay back that sleep that I’d needed.

I worked with the whole family, massaging them right after the mum had sadly passed.

She came through loud and clear with distinct messages for each and every one of them.

She mentioned things I could not have ever known. For example, she described a dog as big as a horse (the brother and sister-in-law had a massive great dane).

It was so amazing.

I felt I was able to serve that wonderful family with the gratitude I’d held from a day when I really needed a bed to lay on for a short time.

Life has simple needs that will meet ours.

We just have to be willing to ask when we need to, and to deliver when asked.

There is every reason to live here on earth with an attitude of gratitude.
